What is an evergreen job?

Some companies are always trying to hire specific types of talent, often because they can't hire enough people with valuable skills. For these jobs, when you find a great candidate, you hire them. Talent acquisition professionals refer to these as "evergreen" jobs because they never close... the way evergreen trees stay green year-round.

In JobScore, every job is evergreen unless you have the Approvals feature, which is usually bundled with the Enterprise plan. JobScore has an attribute called openings that tracks how many people you plan to hire for a specific job role.

How evergreen jobs work without Approvals

If you don't have the Approvals feature in your account, you won't find the word "evergreen" anywhere in JobScore. When you open jobs, they stay open until you move the job out of the open status, and you can hire as many people as you want into the job. For all intents and purposes, every job is "evergreen."

The way it works is that when you hire a candidate into the last opening for a job, JobScore asks you, "How many people are you hiring?" and you have two choices:

Choosing to keep a job open and keep hiring after marking a candidate hired in an applicant tracking system

  1. Stop hiring. Choose "I'm only hiring one person." The job status will move from open to filled.
  2. Keep hiring. Choose "I'm hiring more people." JobScore adds an opening, and the job status remains open.

Offers work differently. To avoid making two offers for the same job when you don't want to, you can't make more offers and hires than you have openings on a job. To have several offers out for the same job at the same time, you'll need to raise the job's Number of Openings.  Alternatively, you can rescind the first offer or mark the candidate hired.

How evergreen jobs work with Approvals

With Approvals turned on, the Number of Openings must be approved. You can't hire more people than you have approved openings. If you want to hire more, you'll need to re-approve the job.

With Approvals turned on, an Evergreen switch that gives a job unlimited openings appears. When you flip the switch, the job can be approved once, and your team can hire unlimited people for the specific job role. The Evergreen switch is next to Number of Openings when you edit a job:

Turning Evergreen on or off sends the job back for approval.

With approvals, you can make as many offers as you have approved openings.  Naturally, if you turn on the evergreen switch, you can make an unlimited number of offers.
