What are the differences between the Google User App and the Google Account app?

The Google User App

Can be installed by anyone and enables Google integrations for individuals, including:

The user app can be installed:

  • for personal identities (emails on the gmail.com domain) and
  • for multiple identities (across multiple gmail.com and Google Workspace domains).

If an identity is on the company’s primary domain, it will be used to power the Google Calendar and Google Meet integrations.  Email synchronization works for all connected identities.  The company's primary domain is the company URL value, which can be controlled here by users with the owner and admin access level.

The Google Account App

The Google Account App can only be installed by a user with Super Admin access on your Google Workspace domain, typically an executive or someone in the IT department.

The account app enables integrations for all users on a domain who use JobScore. The account app powers Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Meet (like the User app) as well as:

We strongly recommend you install the account app so Google integrations “just work” for all of your employees.  The user app was created for two reasons:

  • To allow companies to take advantage of valuable integrations without having to ask IT for help.
  • To allow users, particularly sourcers, contract recruiters, and consultants to connect and use multiple identities.

The Google Account and Google User apps work seamlessly together.  The Account app takes precedence, so once it's installed no one on a domain will need to install the user app.  If the account app is disabled, individuals can install the user app to restore Google Calendar, Gmail, and Google Meet integrations.
